The Slave Pit

Mine Level, Dwarf Mine, 13th April 1601

This session's scene

Moving carefully down the passage, the liberators rounded the corner into what Romae had described as the slave pit, the chamber in which the dwarves had been accustomed to keep the kobold workers before the mine was overwhelmed. As she approached, Animir could here the sound of snoring, and of soft conversation. Although she couldn't understand the words, she recognized the language by its' sounds as Krultac, the tongue of dragons, lizard men - and kobolds. She drew her sword and rounded the corner.

On the other side, she saw a 30'x40' room, dominated by a 10' pit in the centre, around which a 6' wide walkway hugged the wall. Seated near the entrance were two kobolds, talking quietly, while a further five were scattered around the walkways, sleeping. Two troglydytes were dozing at the far north-eastern corner, next to a heap of javelins.

Without hesitation, the dwarf Romae was around the corner and swinging her battleaxe, slaying one of the two wakeful kobolds at a single stroke. "Get the Troglydytes!" yelled Animir, and Thorkil and Akara began to pelt the larger reptilians with missiles accordingly. She herself waved her sword over her head and unleashed a tirade of abuse at the trogs, hoping to anger them into making a mistake; all she achieved, however, was to wake the remaining kobolds.

Thorkil and Akara downed a trog, but the other kept up a rain of javelins as the battle unfolded, wounding several of the party. Animir, realizing she'd better pitch in, advanced along the southern catwalk, slaying both kobolds in her path, and headed around the top of the chamber towards the last trog.

Romae, her initial headlong charge exhausted, was having serious trouble with the second kobold, and two more were charging to aid it.

... and then we ran out of time. Curse you, Bedtime, our greatest foe!
