The passage carried on for a while, finally rounding a corner to discover a small round chamber with four kobolds guarding it. Though alert, they had not perceived the soft-footed elf entering the cavern. Cautiously, Animir withdrew again, motioning to her companions to return around the corner. There, she quizzed Akara about these kobolds, as to whether he knew them. He shrugged. This was enough for Animir, who turned back and led her small party against the kobolds. Disdaining missile fire, the elf walked across the cavern with her sword drawn. When the guards did spot her, they seemed nonplussed by her and unconcerned by Akara; but the sight of Thorkil brought immediate hostilities. Two stepped backwards and began whirling slings; two advanced at a trot with halfspears readied. Akara spun up his own sling, and struck home on one of the enemy slingers with a stone before receiving one in his groin in return. Thorkil was also painfully struck, and then the two kobolds with spears met Animir and Thorkil in the middle. Blades flashed and cut, and spears stabbed futilely, no match for the Mage Armour magic still running on Animir and Thorkil. The kobolds put up a good defence, though, and Akara had managed to kill both slingers before either of the melee combatants scored a kill. Finally, Thorkil brought down his opponent with a shattering blow of his short sword, and Animir beat down the resistance of her foe to cleave his skull.
